Who We Are/History: Musiqtone is an online music news & media outlet that offers comprehensive coverage in the world of music. Musiqtone was founded on September 22, 2002 by two students from Indiana's Purdue University and fellow suburban Chicago natives, Alan Ho (Hoffman Estates) and Peter Burke (Glenview) as MusicMania as an "accidental" class project for their English 101 class.
The class project began with two other fellow students initially and primarily reported music news and showcased music videos from an expansive library with AOL Music and in 2003, it slowly evolved to what it has become today as the then college-based music website added album reviews and indie coverage with a group of new writers. A collaboration with the late digital media company CDigix in the Fall of 2004 permanently altered the course of MusicMania and exposed the site a little bit to the big leagues and a year later, MusicMania became Musiqtone on February 8, 2005.
Musiqtone quickly launched dedicated sections that today are The Music Lounge, The Hot Seat and The Critics Corner and a year later began to spread out by opening new operations in the East Coast and West Coast in San Diego. By 2010, Musiqtone had spread out to all over the country and Canada.
Later in 2006, Musiqtone got a cup of coffee in the music big leagues, extensively covering Teddy Geiger, then signed with Universal Music Group. In 2007, through a free lance music media writer, Musiqtone entered the big leagues of music by landing on the mailing list of a publicity executive, then working for Universal Motown/Republic. This began to attract Musiqtone to various PR firms and other major labels and by 2011, the outlet had at least one publicity contact with at least two labels and their publicity departments under the umbrella of the Big Four (Sony, Universal, Warner and EMI).
We Have Location!: Musiqtone has come a long way from being primarily located in a dorm room on the campus of Purdue University and utilizing several campus computer labs along the way. Now, Musiqtone is run out of several locations including:
1. It's web server is located in the Los Angeles suburb of Irvine and operated by Dreamhost LLC, a web hosting company based in downtown Los Angeles.
2. It's central location is Hoffman Estates, IL, a northwest suburb of Chicago.
3. Palatine, IL, a northwest suburb of Chicago
4. Raleigh, North Carolina
5. Nashville, TN
6. Boston, MA
7. Rochester, NY
8. Chicago
What Do We Do: We offer comprehensive coverage into the music world; covering the biggest and hottest names in music alongside the ones we think you should know about who are part of music's vibrant and expansive indie and underground scene. We also cover unsigned and the best kept secrets in music that we think everyone has to know about. Musiqtone also showcases many music videos, special features such as Artist of the Month and Video of the Week and we are the home of three of our biggest features: The Spotlight on the Musiqtone Blog, You Gotta Know and finally,. The Countdown, the web's biggest fan-driven music video countdown.
