Meg & DiaMeg & Dia

The Veronicas and Tegan & Sara had better watch out because Meg & Dia Frampton are in the house and the sisters ain't goin' anywhere anytime soon. What started as a sisterly acoustic act after little sister Dia decided to finish high school "on packets" is now a powerful and edgy sounding pop/rock act with a drummer they found in a parking lot fixing the bumper to their car and a guitarist who they grilled on music theory and scales.

Described as edgy pop backed by powerful female harmonies and highly charged melodies, they can be seen as the U.S. answer to the Veronicas but what makes them different is down to the sisters' lyrical sense, that can only described as touching, yet deep and complex and wrapped with plenty of edges. And people are taking notice. This year thanks to their success on Myspace.com, Meg & Dia saw time on the Warped Tour, selected as the official Myspace band for the famed alt-rock/indie tour. And it doesn't hurt that Alternative Press magazine has put the sisters on the watch list for bands to watch.

In November, you can see the Frampton sisters with fellow emerging acts Damone and the Pink Spiders with Sugarcult on the road. And if you haven't, get yourself a copy of Meg & Dia's label debut, 'Something Real,' produced by Stacy Jones (American Hi-Fi). And of course, if you have a Myspace...add them!

Canada has brought us acts like Sum 41, Avril Lavigne, Nickelback, Simple Plan, and Our Lady Peace. Now Hedley is about to join an elite group of hard-rocking Great White Northerners. Hedley, which 3/4 of the former Canadian alt-rock band Everything After and lead singer Jacob Hoggard. After tasting wild success in their home country, the band has now taken their brand of accessible punk to the U.S., signing on with Capitol and putting out their already successful self-titled debut 'Hedley' to the hundreds of thousands of American music fans that found them on Myspace.com's music portal.

Now on a U.S. tour, the band is taking their pop-punk from coast to coast and in the process get more fans and eclipse Sum 41 and Simple Plan as the best and hottest alt-rock band Canada has to offer to the world.

They have sold out places like Madison Square Garden in New York and became only the second act to ever sell out the LA Coliseum. Before that, they were six superstars starring in the most popular Mexican soap opera ever. The fact that all six also had musical aspirations turned their show into the Spanish counterpart to the CW Network's One Tree Hill, another show where music plays a big part, so big that music acts have decided to use the show as a way to promote their music. Like One Tree Hill, the show 'Rebelde' also attracted artists like Lenny Kravitz and Hilary Duff, who used the opportunity to promote their music to different demographic.

Now, looking to follow Latin stars Marc Anthony and Shakira into conquering the U.S. music market, the sextet is set to debut their English-language album, 'Rebels' on December 26. Think of them as S Club 7, with far better personalities, talents, and harmonies...and most important potential longevity. This group's name is a name you will be hearing a lot beginning December 26.

Plain White T'sPlain White T's

Chicago, the Windy City, the home of Musiqtone has once again become a hotbed for some of the hottest acts in music.  In the 90s, Chicago brought the music world Smashing Pumpkins, the infamous R. Kelly, Liz Phair, and the now rather iconic Rage Against the Machine.  In 2004, the man that was among the people behind Jay-Z ended the apparent music drain Chicago experienced following the troubles of R. Kelly and the final breakup of Rage Against the Machine.  His name was Kanye West.

Now Chicago is back on the music map, having brought the aforementioned West and revitalized its reputation for bringing out bands like Fall Out Boy, October Fall, and Chevelle.  Very soon, Villa Park act Plain White T's will join this list of bands but they actually have been around for a lot longer than the ubiquitous FOB.

The band formed in 1997 and while the band has seen a few lineup changes, the man behind it all, Tom Higgenson is still around and is still very much the heart and soul of Plain White T's. Their songs are full of life, talking about life and their experiences in general, giving also the band a power-pop feel.  But true power-pop band they are not. At the end of the day, they are put in the same vein as Smashing Pumpkins and Rage Against the Machine, just throw in a little power-pop.  That gives you the Plain White T's and they are here to stay.

The Working TitleThe Working Title

Put a Counting Crows base and add some Fuel to the mix with a touch of pure punk and you have yourself South Carolina alt-rock band The Working Title.  The band, consisting of Joel Hamilton, Adam Pavao, Chris Ginn, and Ross Taylor came together in 2001 and despite the fact that all four had logged time in other outfits, this foursome clicked very early on.  Signed to Universal in 2003, they now have seen their music land on the MTV reality hit Laguna Beach and now have their first major-label release out in stores, 'About Face,' a collection of older songs the band had done in the past and also brand-new ones that show off the process the bandis going through as they continue to evolve their sound.

The band name is quite fitting. Evolving indeed.
