Singer/songwriter Stacey Plunkett is a twenty-three year old native of Atlanta, Georgia. At a very young age, she began singing and performing in school, church, and community activities. Her passion for being in the spotlight drew neighbors to her family's home to watch her sing and dance with perpetual energy, and she quickly became the talk of her Georgia hometown. At age 8, she began studying piano, and she later began studying the violin. At this point, her tastes began moving more toward contemporary and popular music, and before she knew it, she was singing at local restaurants with hired acts. She was desperate to do more. This is when she decided it was vital for her to learn how to play the guitar, so she quickly taught herself at the age of sixteen. She picked it up instantly and avidly wrote original songs and performed them in her high school talent shows. She was also devoted to theatre and performed in countless musicals and plays throughout high school, one of her most noteworthy roles being Sandy in "Grease!" Her songwriting skills developed greatly, and she knew that this was what she wanted to do for the rest of her life; make music to share with the rest of the world. Stacey moved to Boston, MA in the fall of 2001 to attend Berklee College of Music, and she recently graduated on May 7th, 2005 with a Bachelor of Music degree. Throughout her four years at Berklee, she performed often around Boston and further developed her talent and songwriting while studying at one of the most prestigious music colleges in the world. Now residing back home in Atlanta, GA, Stacey is frequently performing around all areas of Atlanta and continues to strive to bring her music career to a higher level. |
In 2001, the music world was introduced to Sedona, AR native Michelle Branch, who brought her brand of heartfelt guitar-driven pop/rock and would have headed a young class but 4-5 years later, she abandoned that to reach back for the country she grew up on, leaving the mantle empty on who would replace ranks that include Liz Phair, Sheryl Crow, Fiona Apple, Jewel, and Sarah McLachlan as among the best female pop/rock singer-songwriters we have seen in the past decade and a half. Sure, theres Anna Nalick and Tristan Prettyman but a 23 year old, Berklee-educated native from Atlanta, GA might just take the cake and have it too.
Her sound can be described as piercing the soul, the heart with an honest and sincere overlay. It's about relating to life's struggles and triumphs which is very evident in her brand of guitar-driven pop/rock. It reminds you vividly of two of among the greatest female singer-songwriters of all time.
So, do we dare to say we may have found someone here who might have the potential someday to be the next Sheryl Crow...or even the next Jewel? Perhaps. She has a voice that at times resembles Jewel's a bit and has a grip on Sheryl's complex lyrical motifs.
Without a doubt, we think Stacey Leigh Plunkett has the potential to someday join the ranks populated by the artists we mentioned above and that's also why she's someone...'YOU GOTTA KNOW.' |
