Brock Zanrosso
Brock Zanrosso
Could 18 year old Brock Zanrosso be the next big pop star to follow fellow Canadians Justin Bieber and Carly Rae Jepsen to the United States?  He may already be on an eventual track, crafting his music in various nightclubs in his native Canada and a successful stint on YTV’s ‘The Next Star.’  Brock brings in a synth-heavy, electro beat described as a “hard-hitting edgy new sound.”  His latest single “Every Night” hits the streets on August 7 and is also working on his debut album Love Kills, due out later this year.  Here is Jackie’s interview with Brock!

Jackie:  Tell me about yourself and why you got into music?

Brock: I’m 18, Im from Vancouver, and Im an artist who feels something is missing from the male pop industry, and looking to fill that void. I got into music when i was 15, after always having dreams repressed as a child, when I was 15 I finally attempted to do something about them.

JB: What's something that you can tell us that no one knows about you? That makes you stand out?
BZ: What makes me stand out is the fact that I'm going a completely different route than the other guys in the music industry. Majority of males in this industry are doing the pop-hip-hop hybrid thing, whereas I myself am not trying to do that at all. My music is pop-dance with elements of dub step. I also make sure that my image and styling stands out above the rest. I do the pop thing, but with an edgy, darker twist.

JB: What got you into the world of Music?
BZ: I was on a show called the Next Star in Canada when I was younger, and since then I just haven't stopped. It's a very crazy world, but I could not let it go.

JB: What was your experience on the next star like?
BZ: It was amazing, a great jump start into the industry, and a great way to meet industry professionals and connections.

JB: What can people expect when they look you up on YouTube or see you in concert?
BZ: When you look me up on YouTube, you'll see something QUITE different than what you'll see from me live. My image over the past year has changed a lot, and most of the videos on YouTube are a bit older. My music is evolving, and I showcase that with the new EP Love Kills. When you see me live, I will not disappoint. The show is super hype, full of dancing, and lots of fun.

JB: You know my home girl Stef lang!! How was it opening up for her on the fighting mirrors tour?

BZ: It was great! Stef is a great artist with a great voice, we've even worked with the same producers in the past, and I'm so glad to see her gaining some airplay in the Canadian market. She's such a musician, so it's great to see someone so rawly talented doing so well for herself.

JB: What was your favorite part?
BZ: That I got to perform an acoustic set. Though its not the whole 'Brock Zanrosso' show experience without my dancers, acoustic sets are always different, and a lot of fun.

JB: Any tour plans?
BZ: I'm performing around BC a bit this Summer. I'm moving to Toronto in September, so hopefully when I move out there we can get some things set up, that's definitely one of my goals for moving out there.

JB: "every night" Tell me the process behind the song?
BZ: Every Night is very different from everything else on Love Kills. It's the ballad. The rest of the EP is mostly upbeat. Every Night was actually a crazy process. I had booked studio time, and wasn't even planning to include the song on the EP, but we ended up having just over an hour left to record in the studio. So literally, within the hour, we wrote, and recorded the WHOLE THING!

JB: What is next for you music wise?
BZ: I'm releasing a single called DROWNING to Canadian Radio on July 23rd (and on my YouTube channel) and hopefully filming a music video for that in August. Which by the way, is going to be absolutely amazinnggggg! I'm so excited about the video treatment! And then of course, I'm moving to the big city to continue with this crazy business.

As a bonus, check out his upcoming single "Every Night" before it officially comes out August 7! Also, visit his official website, Twitter and Facebook!
