A couple years ago 4 guys met up in Long Island, and brought the band "Caution" into being "Push Play." And from there we find That these fours guys can bring rock and pop into one album on and off stage. With giving credit to Maroon 5 and Kanye West, their unique techno vibe send shivers through our spines. This is when Derek tells us about what it feels like to be Push Play and be known nationwide.
Rachel: Hey, could you introduce yourself and say what you do in the band?
Derek: okay, right now?
R: yeah.
D: I am Derek and I play drums in push play.
R: could you give a brief history on the band?
D: Okay, uhm, well the band first started off when CJ and Nick had their first band called “Caution” and later on they wanted to take it farther so basically we met them at the studio when they were looking for other musicians.
R: So just like that you became “Push Play”?
D: Yeah.
R: How does it feel to know that you have fans everywhere that love you?
D: Amazing, you cannot even explain how great of a feeling it is.
R: Do you ever feel like it isn’t realistic?like it isn’t really happening?
D: Oh, always. Like if people are talking and you are like, Hey we are Push Play. It is just shocking still, y’know?
R: Yeah I bet.
R: Would you thank anyone right now for where you are?
D: Definitely all of our parents, or anyone else that has helped us out along the way. And all the fans!
R: Yeah.
D: Everyone.
R: If you could give credit to any artist or singer who would it be?
D: Uhm, usually like Kanye West or Maroon 5, they are both really cool.
R: Yeah.
R: How old were you when you became interested in Music?
D: Uhm, I was in 3rd grade when I got my first drum kit. But when I was little I would drive my parents crazy bagin’ on whatever I’d find.
R: ha, yeah.
R: What Is your philosophy on music?
D: Music is everything, and it means everything. Music has to do with everything when a person needs to get feeling good, a good way to level around.
R:What do you think makes you guys unique in comparison to other bands?
D: We really, like on our album I guess we sound more pop, but live we uhm, we seem more rock. And also we give a lot to the community, we play and stuff and we give a lot of money to charities.
R: Oh woah, that’s amazing.
R: Do you ever regret anything you have done as an artist?
D: No, I think you ah, you know you learn from your mistakes as a band. Everything we have ever done we can never feel like that.
R: What is your favorite song to play live?
D: Situation.
R: Uhm, Do you ever do anything before you go on stage?like rituals as a band?
D: Uhm, we do the “quackquackquack,” I don’t know if you have seen it on our vlogs but we stand in the middle and we all go quack quack quack quack quack. We do it at every show.
R: Ha
R: If you could say anything to your fans right now what would it be?
D: Ah, that we love you and that we are nothing without you guys.
R: What would you call your kind of music?
D: Fancy Rock and Roll
R: Do you ever wish you could go back to the life you had before all of this happened?
D: Do I wish I could?
R: Yeah.
D: No way, I love where I am right now.
R: do you have any recommendations for any up and coming hopeful bands out there right now?
D: Play always at your hardest. Y’know, make a myspace and talk to fans.
R: That is pretty much all of the questions I have, thanks you so much for the interview.
D: No problem, sorry it took so long.
R: Is there anything else you would like to say to your fans here at musiqtone?
D: Thank you so much, you guys are amazing.
R: Thank you so much for everything, bye.
D: Cya.
