deadmau5 partners up with Astralwerks for future albums

By Alan Ho

Longtime electro-music powers Astralwerks has announced today in New York (October 14) that they have entered into a long-term relationship with electronic music power deadmau5.  The two pioneering forces, one label and one musician will release a brand-new mau5trap compilation, titled We Are Friends Vol. 2 on November 12 with presales launching October 22.

The partnership means that Astralwerks will be solely for both distribution and label-related business for deadmau5 in the US as well as the legend’s imprint mau5trap, which will remain a separate but equal part outside the purview of Astralwerks.  This also means deadmau5 will have labelmates like Chemical Brothers and Fatboy Slim.

The border-defying, innovative artist will retain remarkably his long-standing independent streak, with complete control creatively over his music and future releases from his imprint, which includes Foreign Beggars and Le Castle Vania.

"So, it’s now official… Yep, we’ve teamed up with our friends at Astralwerks! It’s done, and this shit is happening! Big plans are in motion people. BIG," says deadmau5.

"We are thrilled to be working with deadmau5 both as an artist and as an A&R partner for his mau5trap label," adds Astralwerks General Manager Glenn Mendlinger. "Joel is an absolute trail blazer, pushing the boundaries of electronic music, production, and the live experience to places unimaginable without his vision and contribution. This is an exciting moment, but it’s only the beginning. Watch this space…"
